If they're compatible, it opens up the much wider world of protected R-CR123 alternatives.

Finding ones with soldering pins might be a challenge, though.
Has anybody tested the alarm module circuitry to determine whether it's actually applying a charge voltage to the batteries? Or is it possible that the cells are just longlife lithium backup cells that, for whatever reason, are immediately drained upon replacement?
