I have a 2001 9-5 I bought from a private owner about 10 months ago. It had 55k on it when I purchased it, and I just took it in for its 60k service today. The shop I took it to is a very reputable independent shop in my area (Denver). He told me he'd give it a thorough inspection and give me a call on what it needed. His phone call floored me.

The list of items needing attention: water pump, oil sender, PCV system, serpentine belt, power steering pressure hose, 1 wheel bearing, transmission mount and a few other items. All totaling about $3,300.

When I purchased the car, it had a transferable (for $500) aftermarket warranty, good until 05/2011 or 100k. It covered all (including the loaner car) but the PCV system and serpentine belt (plus a $200 deductible). My warranty just saved me about $2,500 or so. It made me a believer in them!
