Roof Rack mounting

I am a catastrophe adjuster, and work around the country. Wisely, for comfort, mileage and more, I use my 2000 9-5, rather than a pickup truck. I carry a fold up 17 foot ladder in the trunk, laid over laid down rear seats.
This works well, but I wondered how I might carry a longer ladder. The car has a hitch mounted under the rear, and it occurs to me that a 20+ foot ladder could be carried on the car by lying it on roof mounts, and using the hitch to create a vertical support [an extension, if you will, of the functionality of the approx. 2x4 ft rear racks that are sold to carry fuel, boxes, whatever.
i need to mount a bar which has a roller bar, rather than the typical rack bar, in each of the two slots, and a small lateral support on the front rack.
I need, however, to understand the mounting design. The loads for an aluminum ladder would not be high on each rack bar. I notice the two holes and do not understand if they are screw mounts. Also, do these holes bear the load? Or does some load lie on the edge of the roof, where I assume there is a roll bar or other structural element.
Someone pointing to a URL of drawings of the two hole area, and of the design of the typical Saab rack's mount area might help.
Thanks..
