New serp belt shredded, now an oil leak? (Long)

I had a Saab dealer mechanic install a new serpentine belt, idler and tensioner pulleys last week on my 03 Aero right at 60k (short belt, non OEM, even though I requested a long belt. He claimed they didn't have any long belts at the dealership, I didn't believe him.) Any way, less than 100 miles afterward I was on the highway and heard what I thought was a piece of road debris stuck under my right front wheel. I was looking in the rear view mirror waiting for it to come out, but alas, the battery light came on and I knew right away the belt had broken. I got right off the highway and into a lot. Sure enough, the belt was totally shredded and there was coolant everywhere. I called up the mechanic and he said I could DRIVE IT HOME 30 MILES LIKE THAT, just to keep an eye on the temp gauge. I didn't believe this could possibly be true, but I gave it a shot. I went about 200 yards and the temp went right up to the red zone. Called AAA and got a $95 tow back home.
The mechanic came over with a new long belt that they amazingly "just got in." It took well over an hour to get all the pieces of the melted on belt off all the pulleys. The new tensioner plastic wheel had grooves burned into it ($120!) so he took the wheel off the old one and replaced it on the new one. Anyway, got the new belt on and started the car and there is a steady rapid dripping of oil now. It appears that the cam shaft seal is leaking badly, but he's not sure. He is trying to say that the oil leak must have caused the belt to fail, but there is no way that I'm going to believe that. There wasn't a drop of oil on my garage floor before this. Can there be a correlation between the failed belt and the oil leak? If you read all of this, I thank you! I'll have all day to read any responses as the car is still on jack stands and will be until he gets here after his shift at the dealership...
