I have a well-cared for 2002 Arc with the V6. The V6 is exempt from the sludge issue but I would classify my car as "a nightmare". Fortunate to have had the CPO warranty. If you purchase a used SAAB, I would highly recommend one with the SAAB CPO (certified pre-owned) warranty. You may pay a little more upfront for the car but you will also be able to sleep better at night. My car has received approximately $10K in warranty repairs. I threatened my SAAB and told it that it's time for it to go since my CPO warranty expired. It's been doing fine at the moment so maybe it doesn't want a new home? I don't think anything can approach the reliability of a Lexus or Acura but I just don't like them much. I've owned may SAAB's and my worst one was a 1982 SAAB Turbo APC. My stellar SAAB was a 1980 SAAB 900 EMS. It only required tires, belts, and brakes.
