Thought I'd update this thread on my repairs. When the mechanic attempted to start the vehicle upon finding it in their lot the morning after the tow-in, it started immediately.
Due to a badly corroded battery cable, they went ahead and replaced that as that was an obvious fix. That said, I doubted that was ever the problem as I had verified the voltages on the cable, with the car running & stopped.
They called mid-day to say they couldn't find any other problem and that the car was throwing no error codes. At this point, due to the advice of SAABNET members, I simply authorized them to replace the CPS sensor. The cost of the CPS was $180 parts/labor, and it was worth it for me to simply have it replaced now.
Thanks again for all the advice. I'll update again if the situation changes. For what it's worth, it's my opinion that this sensor be replaced at some regular interval - at minimum at the 120K service. I've read plenty folks whose sensors go much earlier, so some might advocate sooner. Given that a failure of this sensor can leave one stranded in the middle of road with little/no notice, I think this is a safety concern.
Thanks,
KevinH
