9-5 dies, but SID says 22 miles left until empty.

All,
I have an 06 9-5 SC CPO with 30,100 miles, just had the 30k service done 200 miles ago. Tonight while highway driving at 55mph, the car began to buck a bit, the check engine light came on, and then the car died. The SID said 22 miles for "distance to empty" and the fuel gauge was still in the red, just slightly above the bottom white line in the fuel area.
Saab roadside assistance came (within 30 minutes!) and put a gallon of fuel in and the car started/ran fine with no issues. He was from the Saab dealer where I bring my car and he thought the fuel sensor may need to be replaced.
Does anyone have any thoughts or have you been through this before? I usually don't let the fuel get that low, but this time it was just beyond my control.
Thanks,
Ryan
