I have an 01 LPT 5-spd stick and an 04 Arc 5-spd auto. In my experience the 4 cyl family is pretty consistent on mpg with very little difference between low and high horsepower versions - maybe 1 mpg at most, more if you use the extra power. The stick (only on 4-cyl) will gain you an extra 1-2 mpg compared to an auto trans under most conditions. The V6 will lose 1-2 mpg compared to a 4 cyl.
I can't speak directly to the V6, but the 4 cyl cars will all pull down 30-32 mpg at 70mph on extended road trips. In urban conditions they will get around 20-22, less if it is really hilly or congested. My average mpg over 50K miles with my LPT is 27, with my newer Arc auto over 10K it is 26.5, and my driving is 75% highway at 70mph, the rest suburban.
I enter every fillup into an Excel spreadsheet, so every tank is tracked.
