Icy roads are dangerous to drive on, even if you have studs or Blizzak-type tires. If your 9-5 is late enough to have ESP, that can help a bit (actually, pretty considerably), but it's still not a good combination.
You didn't mention how old the tires are, other than "fairly new". One season? Two? Could there be any cupping from an alignment problem that may only show itself in the tenuous traction conditions of an icy road?
4mm in offset difference would be hardly noticeable, so long as all the wheels are straight. More importantly, they are the same width. right? AND, has the alignment been checked since the pothole hit?
