Well I am not going to argue that a SAAB is preferred to a Camry, er, excuse me, a Lexus, because as you say, this is a SAAB board and we are SAAB partisans.
So instead I will question your assumption that a V-6 is preferred over the 2.3l 4 cyl. Respectfully, I would disagree (and of course this will P.O. all the SAAB V-6 owners). The 2.3l is a much nicer engine than the V-6. The V-6 is mandatory in the SE package, but I believe that it is possible to order a leather package on the base car with the 2.3l, in whcoh case you get a comparably luxurious but superior-performing car for less $$$$! The analagous practice in the Toyota domain would be to buy a fully optioned camry instead of an ES300.
Have you driven the SAAB with both base 2.3 and SE V-6? If not, you really should. Oh, and don't drive the Aero unless you are prepared to spend the bucks, because it blows away eveything else you are considering! (And, I might add, it blows them away with a 2.3l 4-cyliner inline engine.)
Good luck. I am sure you'll make a good choice because you are doing your homeowrk.
