Actually all of the newer 9-3 SS cars look good and handle well, but there were some issues on the early models (mostly 2003, some 2004), so look for 2005 and up. Also the trim is a bit plastic-ky compared to the 9-5, and road noise is higher, but did I mention they are really fun to drive? Ha ha - really fun... and the seats are superb, even better imho than the 9-5. So a younger person would undoubtedly go that way over a 9-5.
As far as parts and service for any Saab down the road, I agree with Steven - there will always be parts available as long as there is a need - it is how the aftermarket suppliers make money. And plenty of mechanics to stick those parts in. I would not be worried in the least about that.
