Keeping a Fiat in operation is much more of seat of the pants operation. A new Saab won't even start if the computers are not all in perfect harmony. Everything the car does is controlled by items not even the average mechanic can repair. It requires special dianostic tools and REPLACEMENT parts, and not the kind you can buy at Autozone.
To compare Oldsmobile warranty being continued with Saab is a stretch. All of the critical parts are used on other GM vehicles along with the same dianostic tools and parts. A Chevy dealer has no problem keeping an Oldsmobile going when it is the same thing with a different name badge.
Lets see that Chevy dealer diagnose and repair issues with a Saab. They will be luck to figre how to open the hood!
I would cheerfully recommend a new Saab to someone that can use the cost savings AND is competent to tackle the repairs on their own. My experience might by unusual, but I have found Saabs to be highly reliable and require minimal repair by simply being able and willing to tackle the repairs before they became larger problems.
