Had an issue with the 01 SE wagon. This is the V6 model. 106000 miles.
Found earlier last week that I have some oil consumption. Basically about 1/2 my oil was gone (below the dip stick line).
Oil change and inspection later by my trusted mechanic and he informs me that "Valve seal gaskets" are likely shot, which is leading to the oil consumption. (I have no leaks on the floor, minor smoke at startup).
He tells me that its a ***** of a job to do, 13-14 hrs labor and parts (parts are cheap, its the labour thats the gotcha in this case). I am suspecting close to $1000 just in labor sound right?
Given that he says simply to monitor the oil usage, and get a few spare quarts of oil and to top up every other gas fill.
While he informs me that the car can run like this forever, he feels that the value of doing any additional 'big jobs' on the car is limited (could get a newer car with ok car payments for what we are doing right now in maintenance fees).
Question is, it is worth selling/trading in? What kind of trade in value would I get? Car is paid off.. so right now its maintenance cost..
