That ring is made of something really soft and is meant to make a nice tight seal between the plug and cylinder head. You're supposed to hand tighten them, then give them 1/2 to 2/3 turn to mush the gasket ring.
As for getting a new DI cassette I'll do it as soon as the CEL come back. For now I just want to see if it was being picky about the plugs. The CEL only comes on right at start up. It never comes on while driving, unless it was triggered while starting.
