I do a fair amount of white water boating, and pretty much everybody uses cam action straps made by NRS or Thule. (I tried to post a link).

I will try to describe this: Use two straps per boat and don't go all the way around the boat, but rather start from the middle of the bar and bring both ends back toward you over the kayak. Leave the cam end hanging halfway up the hull, and run the other end under the bar and around the upright and back up into the cam. If you arrange this so you can pull down to tighten the strap you will be amazed how tight you will get it. (I have seen some cheap kayaks damaged by overtightening in the hot sun)

I don't see any reason for bow and stern straps, but find a kayak store (whitewater or sea) and get 4 of these straps. You are obviously a clever person, so you will know in your gut whether the kayaks are on safely. Have fun. Mike
