Those were my thoughts for running as is, but didn't think about the oil.. majority of all I have read here say M1 0W40 MI all the way for sludged older motors, so that's what I've been running as I'm no oil expert for sure, no clue about what was run in there before me for 164K??... I just want to run consistent oil and best for the tired motor and bearings.. not using thin 0W40 with thinner bearings seems to make sense.. all orifices I could get to have been cleaned pretty good, underside of block and crankshaft, timing cover innerds with brake cleaner, the cyl head had chunks in the valve tappet oil galleys at the #4 cyl side that looks like may be a dead cavityto right of #4 oil hole?? cleaned as good as could with brake cleaner and compressed air till was clear fluid and no chunks.. only oil oil left is in oil cooler..
I'd like to blow out old oil in cooler but but not sure where to blow into.. from oil filter?
I just yesterday bought a 5 pack of M1 0W40 with M1 filter for $29 at Advance Auto, opened one to lube bearings when out back together, but can exchange the rest.. the filter is tiny, think I may excange for larger M1 as seen here posted.. Am gonna buy at least 2 more M1 oil change packs at that price..
So still want to use M1.. and the big question is... 5W40 or 15W50?? seem like 2 different ends of the spectrum??
