rolled the new chain in no problem.. made link from #14 copper house wire.. the worst part for the masterlink link was getting the plate on.. kept falling off aven after much pressure, dropped it a few times, I wasn't over the opening, but for folks who are, be carefull.. quite the snug fit, vise grips did the trick to snap it on carefully, then c clamp with small washers over posts to press tight. too tight at first.. got loosened up, tried small c clamp to peen over, wrong answer.. set up a 2"x4" table and two hammers and carefully pounded away and peened over, you were right, not as bad as it sounded.. looks like the ends mushroomed over enough to not come loose to me!!
Another anxiety step out of the way.. perhaps the head will go on tonight afterall..
oh yea, I measured the old and the new and the old timing chain was only 10 mm longer than the new chain?? doesn't seem much for all the slack I had, we'll see how far out the tensioner goes when all is said and done as guides from above don't look very grooved..
Thanks for all the continued pointers..
