My Arc was very nice. The motor was extremely smooth. Just after I bought it at 84k, I had the TB & water pump done, and the thermostat and oil separator cover were done my my mechanic as they were needed. At 84k, none of this had been done!
Things I like about the V6:
Smoooooooooooooth...
More power than I need...
After heater...
Things I don't like:
Mileage could be better (I got a real-world, calculated, 30 MPG driving a pre-production V6 w/4-speed auto on the Caravan to Hilton Head. My 5 years newer 5 speed auto didn't come close. But it's still better than my Volvo 744t...).
The every 60k $1000-$2000 TB maintenance...
Yes, my Arc was "loaded". It had the Viz package. I loved the Xenons, especially after I changed the capsules. Vented seats are high on my list of really nice things to have. The park assist was my most-used feature, and if I get the Linear, I'll gladly pay the $300 or so Saab wants for the kit. I'd have a hard time parking a 9-5 without it!
I haven't driven a 9-5 with a 4 in quite some time, though I'm probably one of the few US Saabers who has driven the 2.0 LPT.
My history with Saabs has always been with the 4s. From a 99GL with CIS, to an 84 900 turbo (8v CIS), to several C900 16v turbos, reaching the top with a 1991 9000 turbo (2.3l, DI/APC). Though, all of those were with 5 speeds. So, I think I'm pretty well ready to handle it in a 9-5.
Q: Should a 2003 have a black valve cover, or the "unpainted" one? I don't recall what year the "unpainted" one started...
