In my experience, the CPO is a very good deal IF you can get a good price on it. While I haven't even the faintest idea of what's going on with Saab's dealerships as far as CPO's future is concerned, be aware that although the "retail" on a CPO is about $1500, depending on the car and what has to be fixed or replaced before selling as CPO, the INTERNAL cost to the dealer of doing the CPO could be as little as $500. Soooo - by all means think of the CPO fee as negotiable.
When we bought our last Saab - a 2004 CPO wagon, we got the selling dealer to throw in the CPO as a condition of sale. It was late December '07, and a very slow period for car sales. Based on what has gone wrong with the wagon during the warranty thus far (only very minor, diddly stuff...) the dealer must have figured he wasn't giving up very much to move the car out of his inventory. YMMV, however.
