Headlight burned out... melted connector

This morning, get a 'front light out' message on the SID.

Figuring a blown bulb I grab my spare and go to replace.

Opening up the back of the headlight I see the L shaped connector quite literally blown apart and melted.

I replug the part together, restart the engine and no more message.

Call the local saab dealer and the part is $13.00, and they have 'quite a stock of them as its fairly common'.

I will replace tonite, but was wondering if this is an issue that we've run across before? Seems to me that a radical failure like this would be a safety/fire hazard potenially.. or am I just being paranoid?
