If it ain't broke...
I had a 2001 9-5 V6 also that I sold with 184k miles on it and I still see it driving around town and I know it has 200k+ on it now. The transmission always shifted very smoothly. In my opinion, you're never going to get it smoother. If your transmission is shifting rough, simply changing the transmission fluid using DEXRON would probably be a big help. You can also look into replacing motor mounts. A new transmission torque rod mount smooths things out even more. These transmissions are very picky about their fluid. They are designed around the chemical make-up and viscosity of Dexron III. If you are really into taking a $2000 crapshoot then go for it! Dump all sorts of Mercon in there. But IMHO I think when Dexron is a proven, recommended product, it is silly and reckless to try something new.
