They were very similar, as others have mentioned. Our 2003 was a sportwagon, and our 2004 was a sedan.
For whatever reason, the 2004 was rock solid in terms of reliability, and the 2003 wasn't. The 2003 had major problems with the ABS module, suspension, transmission, and more. The 2004 didn't have any issues.
I can't point to a specific reason why one was better than the other, but the difference was considerable.
I think the point I would like to make is that knowing the service history would be a big advantage when comparing two similar vehicles.
Other than that, it really comes down to styling perference. I prefer the look of the 2004 Aero to the 2003, but that's just my opinion.
