with a "marine" type oil change vacuum system.

PS Attempt removal while engine is HOT! The coefficient of expansion of Aluminum is much higher than Steel. The steel plug (which had cooled off while removed) was installed in a HOT oilpan (Aluminum). When cooled, the aluminum shrinks more than the steel and grips the plug more tightly.
And, an impact wrench will be more effective than simple torque.
