Are the inside of the rims very clean or maybe two of the inside rims have more brake dust ? If you find two of the rims have heavier brake dust, those were probably from the front so you figure whether you want to rotate them to the back or leave them in front.
If all four tires are reasonable even in tread, you really don't have to worry where to put at each corner. You can use a make shift thread depth gauge and measure the tires if you really want to be sure.
