If not Turbo, what else gives temporary blue smoke?

I posted a week ago that I suspected my 1999 3.0L V6 turbo might have lost its oil seal since I had an incident of abundant blue smoke from the exhaust, as well as the engine stalling. At that time, the engine had just been started after being parked for 3 days during extreme cold, around -30C at night. The exhaust smoke & stalling happened within a few minutes of start-up as I was driving off to work.
Since then, I opened up the hose between the intercooler outlet and the throttle body intake. I found at most about 4 or 5ml of oil mixed with moisture that dribbled out of the hose. Not much more than when I removed it a while back to replace the radiator, although I don't recall any watery fluid back then. I therefore assumed the oil that was leaking was coming from the exhaust side of the turbo and passing into the hot exhaust stream and burning. Perhaps the stalling was caused by fouling of the oxygen sensor?
Today, with the outside temperature much milder at around -8C, I started the car and let it warm at idle for 5 minutes with no sign of any blue exhaust smoke. I cautiously drove around close to home for 15 minutes. Kept the engine under 2000 rpm and noticed NOT A TRACE of blue smoke. In the last few minutes, I got the rpm up to 3500 a couple times, thinking that that might provoke the turbo oil seal to leak under higher oil pressure and some turbine speed... nothing. The car ran perfectly, as if the incident never happened!
What else besides the turbo seals leaking oil could cause such a lot of blue smoke temporarily? Could frozen condensation moisture in some part of the V6 PCV system blocked the crankcase ventilation and pressurized it to force oil into the combustion stream??
Thanks,
Reg
