changing when they were supposed to, which made a bad thing worse.
I worried about that when buying the '03 9-5 we bought at 40K miles. It had documented oil changes at the dealer every 5-6K miles. I suspect they were semi as that was the policy at the time. I immediately went to M1 full syn every 5K and at 90K all seems well.
I switched my '95 and '96 9Ks to synth when I got them at 138k and 90K, respectively (change at 5K-7.5K intervals) and changed the '99 9-3 SE from conventional oil (done every 3K by the PO) to M1 10/40 High Mileage at 147K. Synthetic oil is a lot cheaper than having engine issues.
