And you prefer something with it's roots in a '60s British Triumph engine? Saab has never, ever, not once designed an engine entirely on thier own. EVERY single Saab engine from the 2cyl stroker in the 92 to the 2.8l V6t in the 9-3 Aero is originally based on some other companies work.
I think the V6 was much more in keeping with the luxury car intent of the 9-5. The 4 was never US-market class competitive in terms of NVH (especially with an automatic), though it certainly makes plenty of power.
Ultimately the biggest problem with the V6 was marketing - it had to be priced less than the Aero for marketing reasons, but the V6 was more expensive to make than the FPT 4.
Definitely the safer bet as a used car.
