I have watched CR's reports on Saabs a lot over the years. They usually show the recent models being fairly reliable and the older ones less so, although this pattern is not shown in the examples posted by Jason. What that pattern said to me is that they don't age very well, which is consistent with my experience with 2 of my 3 Saabs. The the one that didn't fit the pattern was a 99 we got rid of after a major repair at about 50K--we hadn't had it very long and after our experience with our first one we saw the second one was going to be a problem child, too.
With hope in our hearts, we watched CR for years for evidence of improvement and bought our '02 9-5 when it looked like they had improved, but they had not.
I would like to see Spyker follow Hyundai's example and give a 100K warranty, which would force them to look at problem areas and fix them, instead of letting the customer carry the burden of bad engineering on various items--headlight relay, heater bypass valve, DI, SID, etc. Saab is not unusual in the reliability department compared to other European makes; fixing these items would make it exceptional, giving it a competitive advantage.
