I am a lifelong CR subscriber, but one must take whatever they say with a grain of salt and ignore the little colored bubbles and look at the actual statistics whenever possible. I have saved all of the car issues over the years and have found some disturbing trends. With brands that they don't like (American and Swedish cars for example) they will give black marks in the same categories that they will give red marks for the brands they favor (Japanese) even when the actual statistics are the same. The most obvious example for this would be in the gas mileage category. They also will repeat the same text (e.g. Saabs are "quirky") in the write up over many years without bothering to take into account changes that are made. Another annoying trend is that CR, which used to test cheaper and middle of the road goods is now spending more of its resources on luxury items such as $600 lawnmowers, $2,000 lawn tractors and $2,000 television sets. Unfortunately, it is still the best resource available, so I continue to subscribe.
