I just had check-engine light came on, and had to replace the spark plugs. The CEL light went away from spark plug replacement. However, since I don't have any dielectric grease at the house, is it okay to run the car without it in the nipples/tubes of the DI? I have reinstalled the DI after spark plug replacement. After I turn the key to on position without cranking, now I can hear a faint rapid fire noise (tatatatata . . ., perhaps 5Hz to 10Hz in frequency) when I open the hood and place my ear close to the front of the engine bay. Is that normal? I never listened to the car like that before. Will it be okay to drive the car to the store and get dielectric grease? It's about 8miles each way; I'd rather not do DI reinstall job in the parking lot of the store.
How much grease do I need to apply for each nipple/nozzle? just near the tip or fill it in all the way? Is it there to keep dust/moisture out or maintain electrical connection? Do I need to apply any to the metal connector deep inside the rubber nipple/nozzle?
Whatever Saab (or Saab dealership) used for anti-seize compound on the spark plugs is awesome! I don't remember ever replacing the plugs in 9 years and over 92k miles driving. The old spark plugs are shot like little Hershey's Kisses, but they came right out after soaking in a little WD40 for 3min. What anti-seize compound did they use? I'm currently using a little 10W40 oil temporarily when I threaded in the new spark plugs (had those spares since 6years and 60k miles ago!), will be picking up anti-seize compound too when I go get the dielectric grease.
Thanks in advance.
