The purpose of the grease is to facilitate removal of the DIC at a later date for maintenance purposes. The grease is dielectric meaning it is not a conductor of electricity. Despite the temperatures it is exposed to it retains its' characteristics....basically a non-conducting lubricant.
Apply some dielectric grease to the holes that each of the plugs slides into on the underside of the DIC. Use a small amount of the dielectric grease with your finger so that there is a film extending down into the hole about 1/4". Don't worry about too much. The whole idea is to set things up so that you'll be able to lift off the DIC 30K miles from now when it's time to install a new set of plugs. Without any grease things will work fine until you go to remove the DIC 30K mile from now; that may tear the rubber boots which will mean you'll have to replace the DIC. By the way, if you ever replace the DIC save the rubber boots....just in case one gets torn; they cannot be purchased separately.
Try to replace the plugs at a 30K mile interval. Occasional engine missing runs the risk of overheating the catalytic converter. A new converter runs way up in the hundreds of dollars.
