I recently "fixed" mine... Posted by Jonathan Scupin [Email] (#428) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jonathan Scupin) on Tue, 1 Jun 2010 13:16:00 In Reply to: Goofy Gas Gauge, DE [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 1 Jun 2010 06:31:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We bought this 2004 Aerowagon in 2007 with 40K miles on it - the fuel gauge was behaving intermittently, so I took it to a dealer while still under warranty. Interestingly, when I brought up the baffle to the dealer, then claimed never to have heard of it! They replaced the fuel pump assembly, and the gauge worked perfectly...
... until this year, with 66K miles on the car, the gauge starts jumping to empty after a fill, then springing back up around corners (or vice versa)!
So, I checked things out for myself. Upon trying to remove the fuel pump, I found it incredibly difficult to remove after rotating it by 1/4 turn. Eventually (an hour of cussing later...) I got the stupid thing out. The plastic cage/housing was not attached! While I was there, I reached into the tank, and felt *NO BAFFLE* whatsoever. Guess someone "fixed" it before??
In summary, I believe the dealer replaced the fuel pump, but the plastic cage thing wasn't correctly attached, and came loose this year, interfering with the level sensor operation.
Sensor works perfectly now, wife is pleased :)
YMMV
