One of our 9-5s has been put to bed :(

It was a sad day recently when we had to make the decision to not fix one of our 9-5s. The one in question was the '01 lpt wagon. It had about 235k miles on it and the clutch decided to not fully disengage 3 days before it and our travel trailer were supposed to go on a camping trip. The easy fix of the master cylinder was ruled out, which left the clutch or the slave. At $1400 to start and up to 2 weeks for parts, it was putting our vacation in jeopardy. There was also a slight oil leak starting to develop on the passenger side of the engine. Although the engine was still strong and didn't burn any oil between changes, the head gasket and turbo were replaced about 120k miles ago and we feared that they were probably getting ripe for replacement soon too. Suddenly we were realizing that all of this with routine maintenance could end up sucking $5-6k out of our wallets over the next year or so (we drive a lot) and a rust hole had developed in the rear floor pan along with some minor rust bleeds and blisters in the body, so the decision was made. A sad day indeed. We loved that car!
On a happier note, the timing of all this happened to luck us into a great deal on a 2006 9-7X (more about that on that board) in time to still make our vacation. We also still drive our rust free '99 lpt 9-5 at 275k miles and going strong. My mechanic says that it is the highest mileage 9-5 he works on :)
