I went and reviewed the previous post as requested and the slant I got was a very disgruntled person about GM's involvement with Saab so it's not surprising the views were negative about the transmissions too. After 11 model years of 9-5's, trannies are not an issue. Yes we do hear about an occasional failure, but over all they seem to have held up pretty well.
And what nice trannies the autos are with sport programs and manual modes and shift paddles in later years. And the turbo with automatic combo is outstanding masking the weakness and the roughness of the four cylinder turbo off idle and providing a very satisfying response even for die hard stick drivers. The stick 9-5's on the other hand have just an average set up with wide gates and long throws.
