up here, tons of people buy Outbacks + Foresters + they are the same sorts of people who used to buy Saabs. The original owner of our 1993 c900 replaced it with a Subaru. A guy at the local Subaru dealer used to own Saabs and called Subie "the new Saab". I don't buy it. I've driven enough Subies far enough to see the huge difference (comfort, performance, ergonomics). But they aren't bad cars + are well suited to our winters. Saabs + Subies cost the same (after discounting) here, but it seems many look at the pricing before discounting and don't even test drive Saabs... many Subie loyalists don't test drive anything else... imho, they're selling themselves short... but I do genuinely hope Sonique does enjoy the Outback.
I think the 9-3x, 9-4x and awd versions of the new 9-5 may win some of those Subie buyers back. Especially 9-3x. That may be a big winner for Saab. some of my Subie friends are interested in it (and so am I). Subie buyers seem to feel a car *needs* awd, and that awd is an essential safety feature, all of which imho is balony... biggest feature in the 9-3x for me? a little more clearance for our rough roads (eg like a c900)!
