Before condemning the valve you need to understand how the system works.
That valve is only closed when the EVAP system is tested for leak. At all other times it is open allowing air to get sucked into the tank while the EVAP purge valve is pulsing.
So when testing the tank system using smoke machine, you need to activate that valve either with the Tech 2 or applying power to the valve from a battery source.
Serious leaks, P-0455, is usually a sticking EVAP purge valve or bad/loose gas cap. Cracks in tank around the EVAP pressure sensor usually create the lesser code P-0442.
