Oil change records?? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 11 Nov 2010 03:04:08 In Reply to: Saab 9-5 Question, KenMasuhr, Wed, 10 Nov 2010 20:05:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 1999 thru 2003 models with 4-cylinder engnies were subject to sludging of the engine due to a combination of factors:
- Poorly designed PCV system
- Infrequent oil changes
- Use of non-synthetic oil combined with infrequent changes
If the car has service records detailing frequency of oil changes (5K mile intervals are my recommendation) with synthetic oil only; then all is likely good. Without these records you can have the engine sump dropped to inspect for evidence of sludge - probably a $400 work item.
I have 288,000+ miles on my 2000 with no problems so don't worry about the mileage on this car.
