I had a look at a 2003 9-5 wagon 6 months ago, asking was a little over $5k. The owners had it essentially from new, and they bought it from a relative who bought it new + sold it to them within a year or 2. The car was dealer maintained, with a Saab warranty until just within a year of when they put it up for sale. These owners were meticulous. They had receipts, in a folder, in order, for just about everything they did on that car. They did their oil changes at the dealer, on time (iirc, every 7k km, which is roughly 5k miles).
Even so, the car sludged under warranty + the dealer did some repair work, but I wasn't convinced that the methodology was good enough (was done piece meal) so I passed. The car still didn't have PCV#6. I have yet to see a Saab with PCV#6 in it + I know what to look for!
So this is not to say that you should be concerned about your cars if you are doing superior maintenance + monitoring oil pressure. But I think Brett's advice is valid! That said, on a $2500 car, the purchaser should be expecting it to need work (if not now, later) and is probably of the DIY mindset. He should search the board though for the many pieces of info to check for... if it needs very little, hooray, he won the used car lottery! sometimes happens!
