How would you go about checking if the engine suffering from the oil sludge without dropping the oil pan? Engine runs and idle fine without any hesitation. The power is adequate for 02' Linear with 120K. The Turbo was replaced 1 1/2 at 78K, and before I installed the PCV #6 system. I've been using 5W30 M1 synthetic with 5K change interval. The only reason I am reading all about the oil sludge issue is due to my poor MPG, which I'm currently getting about 21.3 MPG combine. I do know that I was getting 27-29 MPG a year ago. I replaced the plugs (NKG 6's) and air filter change out once every year. However, I do run regular unleaded gas from a known gas station. I've been running this type of gas for the last 5 years or so and I was getting 27-29 MPG before. So, I tried couple of tanks of Super Unleaded to see if the mileage improve, I get the same result of 21.3 or so per gal.
So, I am thinking maybe that I am suffering from the oil sludge, because I can't see anything obvious.
So, please let me know how I can tell if my 02' Linear is suffering from the oil sludge without dropping the oil pan.
Thank you!
Tim J.
