The oil have been changed religiously at 4-5K miles since I have own the car when it was 50K miles. I have been using 5w30 Mobil 1 synthetic for the last 5 years or so. Here's a the list if things that had been done last year or most recent.
1. Transmission flushed in 7/2009 & 9/2010
2. New Spark Plugs in 10/2010
3. O2 sensor (upstream - before cat) 9/2010
4. Brand new Turbo (dealer item) 8/2008
5. Brakes 9/2009
6. New tires (4) Bridgestone G019 (inflated based on Tire's manufacture recommendation).
7. Coolant flushed in summer of 2009 - Refilled with Saab's factory fluid.
After I replaced the O2 sensor, I notices of an improvement of MPG by 2 miles (23.4). But now the winter cold weather set in, my MPG is down in 20.9 to 21.0. My driving habit has been the same and I do take the same routes to and from work 5 days a week. No steep hills at all.
I do noticed that today I am running about 1/2 quart short of oil since an oil change, which is about 1500 miles ago. No leakage and no CEL. At the moment, I can't tell if the motor is starving for oil or not since I have a going out belt tensioner, which I am planning on replacing in the spring. The oil is black after 500 miles of driving or so after the oil has been changed, but no materials or shaving that I can see from the oil. I did tried the wire scrape from the drain plug hole a year or so ago and I did not see anything at all... Maybe I was running the wire at the different direction as the pick up tube.
I have been using the SID to keep track on how many miles per gallons method until I couldn't believe that I was getting only 21.3 or so for MPG. So, I keep track of MPG manually and it was concise with the SID. I did have the SID pixel repaired in the spring of 2009 by Krammer and I thought that could be the problem, but it wasn't.
I could take it in the dealership, but I just don't want to get screwed over like I did a few years back.
Thanks all of of you trying to help me with my poor MPG.
