I upgraded from a '94 900 (NG) to an '02 9-5 linear in 2006. I loved the change. I liked the NG 900 but the 9-5 was considerably bigger, more comfortable inside, handled better, had similar power (depends on your 900 model), and just felt like overall higher quality. Various build and design issues that you and I dealt with on the early NG 900s were not an issue on the 9-5. (Though the 9-5 has its own set of quirks.)
If you don't mind a bigger car, the 9-5 wins hands down for me.
Some may disagree with the points I put above. I'm sure you can find opinions sprinkled in past posts.
