I stopped by a Volvo dealership the other night, I did so to check out the XC60 but ended up also eyeballing and sitting in a S60.

The T6 has 300/325 with 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Those are impressive numbers! Worthy successor to my Aero. After of course, giving the NG 9-3 first rights to negotiate its way into my driveway.

Anyhow the intent of this post is to get some comments about the size of the car from the board. Our 9-5 are meant to slot against the 5 series or the A6. However, because it's such an old design, I believe the 3 and A4's size crept up over the years (and the five and six are now roomier, larger). I sat in the S60 and despite the fact that it was shorter, it was wider, had a longer wheelbase and was very roomy in the first row. I'm six feet, two thirty and need my shoulder room. The back seat and trunk however, left much to be desired. Great (comparable) two person car, but not the four adult, luggage hauler that my 9-5 is. I hit the websites after my visit to compare interior dimensions. It turns out that the 9-5 and S60 have the same amount of shoulder room (despite the S60 being wider) but significantly less rear leg room. As if the second row was an afterthought.

Is the S60 in the same class as a 3/A4? Volvo said it used to be "in between classes" but has now positioned the S60 to take on the 3/A4. The dimensions however (at least front row) put it slightly above both and on par with the 9-5. But the Saab website comparo puts it against 5/A6. Is the difference in trunk, rear row space?

The interior though? Wow! Snow white leather, blonde accents. T6 or R design has grey, mettalic aero like accents but still, well executed, rich materials, organic flow, detailed dials. Arguably, a better cabin than the 9-5.

On a related note, It's amazing how little dealer salesmen know about their cars. What a disservice to the engineers and people who built and create these machines. Every question was answered with a shrug or "don't know". Does the XC60 ride on the same chassis as S60? dunno. dunno. dunno.

Castriota, show me the NG 9-3 already (upsized please!)..
