The belt transfers torque, but not the idler pulleys. They only change the angle of the belt. The only torque load on them is the friction from the bearing, which should be as low as possible. If the pully has to get hot enough to melt the belt on he running surface (considering it is a long belt with lots of time to cool during it travels) it will be pretty much red hot at the bearing.Something else will fail long before the belt and you can bet it will cost more then a pulley. I am on my second SAAB with these pulleys, probably 11 years and 200K km of use and they have never failed.
