Any chance that is b/c the premium you get is E0 vs E10 for the other grades? A number of places around here seem to have E0 for premium but not other grades. Based on my experience with a '06 the meaningful difference for me has been between E0 vs E10 which might account for up to 7% mpg difference within grade. The 89/90 vs 92/93 comparison within the same ethanol posting doesn't seem to come close to that (especially this time of year) and I find small differences. Now if you take the 2 together and compare 89/90E10 vs. 92/93E0 then I probably do see around 10% on the interstate but obviously for me the octane difference is the less significant part of it.
For winter I have been burning 90E10. For the local driving mostly back and for to work with snow tires I really can't tell the difference. For summer with the higher heat, summer tires, and much more highway driving I will switch back to 92/93 and burn E0 whenever I can find it. I generally have to settle for 92 at the few places I can get E0 around the state. If I am someplace without a E0 station I'll do one of the places (like Shell) that has 93E10.
