Not sure what the LPT engine specs - it may in fact be regular.
In a car that calls for premium but will run OK on regular, it adjusts for the lower octane by reducing boost or retarding the timing or some other efficiency-reducing measure. Damaging pre-ignition (knocking) is eliminated but that does not mean the engine is running optimally. It's quite possible or even likely that the engine will get worse mileage on regular than premium, resulting in higher total fuel costs.
Then there's always the question of why buy a luxury car with a performance engine and not put the gas the manufacturer says into it - why?
