I am a huge Michelin fan - because they last long, wear evenly and give great MPG. All this adds up to a low overall cost of ownership. I run the 215/55-16 on all my cars and lean toward the Grand Touring because they give good handling with the smoothness and quiet ride I prefer.
I have the Exalto A/S on my 2004 Arc (great handling), Primacy MXM on the 2007 9-3 SS, and had the MXV4 Primacy on the 2001 LPT with 45K on them when I traded. They still had at least 1/3 of the usable tead life remaining at that point.
I also bought a set of Primacy Alpin High Performance Winters this year which I can run on either car and they are quieter than the Exaltos which are already getting a bit noisy on rough pavement with 25K on them. I will not buy Exalto's again, but in fairness they are a HP All Season tire.
I think my personal favorite for longevity, quiet and plushness, (even at 40k+) are the MXV4 Primacy. Not super aggressive but hang on well once set and are so comfortable and quiet - your wife might really like them. They will go an easy 60K if you don't have camber issues. Good in rain.
The verdict is not in on the newer Grand Touring from Michelin - the Primacy MXM4. I have 5K on them on the 9-3 SS and the handling is better than the MXV4 Primacy (more responsive) but not quite as plush and quiet, espec on coarse pavement. Awesome in rain though, which we have plenty of here in the Pac Northwest.
