Thanks for the reply. You know what, that's not a bad idea? But it won't work by itself...I don't think, the hole is about the diameter of the bottom of a coffee cup. 1.5-1.75...
I took the cover panel off in my office parking lot and rigged up a Styrofoam cup with tape. Sloppy fitting so all it did was redirect hot air onto one leg... it did quiet things down a bit.
I need clyinder that is wider on one end and flexible so that I can squeeze it through and then let expand. Rhat way the force of the air rushing in will keep it glued to the firewall.
I also though about a tennis ball. Matter of fact I have a half sliced open one on the table here, the installation of the tennis ball calls for wooden bbq skewers so this plan may be shelved.
Styrofoam cup sounds more promising. Fill cup with sponge and glue to bottom of cup. Sponge should insulate sound as well as providing plenty of insulation for the air before it reaches the weak point at end of cup. If i can spray foam the bottom of cup to the rod it would seal the center hole around the rod and probably cup to rod... seal should be okay but open up when the cup and rod move forward with brakes applied.... i guess I could live with that.
it's really tight in there without removing steering column and brackets....just enough room to mess around with a styrofoam cup.
Sigh.
