If the flex plate is pushed up against the converter so that you cannot rotate the converter by sticking a small screwdriver through the flex plate holes and pry, then it looks bad.
The converter should always have enough space so that it can be rotated behind the flex plate.
Nowadays it is getting more and more difficult to do that though since they don't make any access holes anymore into the bell housing.
I don't even care to change transmission in the shop with a car hoist. Not a fun job anymore.
