New water pump leaks
Posted by Robp [Email] (more from Robp) on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 14:45:54
OK, so I replaced the water pump last night. For me, this job was more miserable than the dreaded alternator replacement. 95 degrees in the shade, I went through 3 T shirts and had a shower before the job was done, then one after.
I used the Saab pump from eeuroparts and used the 3 O-rings from the kit. It all seemed to go together OK.
My wife drove the car to work today, and it came home leaking pretty bad. I can't tell for sure without ripping the thing apart again, but the leak seems to be coming from the block connection. (I can see it dripping from the pump casting to the flat surface below the turbo cooling pipe.)
Oy vey, I'm depressed at the thought of doing this job over. Any thoughts on what could have gone wrong with the o-ring connections?
