I doubt the grade matters much vs reusing a locknut. if you're concerned I bet the Saab dealer will sell you lock nuts for a couple $...
I just removed our rear shocks + removal of the top nut was the easiest part: vice grips on the nut, 7mm socket on the hex tip of the original OEM shocks... all short hand tools even with lots of rust (used plenty of liquid wrench though)... if you're doing the fronts, why not do the same, but allen key + a wrench or vice grips on the nut? the nut is the disposable part... don't damage the shock with vice grips...
Fwiw, konis on the rear don't use a locknut - 2 nuts you tighten together... I actually prefer that to get off because one can use 2 wrenches...
